Sjeng Horbach, Principal Consultant Toxicology

With over 38 years of experience, Sjeng Horbach, PhD, is an expert toxicologist. He is experienced in drug metabolism, preclinical drug development and non-clinical safety assesment. His extensive career in toxicology spans roles in CROs, universities, and pharmaceutical companies, culminating as the head of the Non-clinical Safety and Toxicology group at Genmab in The Netherlands before starting as an independent consultant.

Sjeng’s expertise covers a broad spectrum of pharmaceuticals, including small molecules, biologicals, and gene therapy, across diverse therapeutic areas such as CNS, oncology, and fertility. His academic credentials include a MSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Leiden and a PhD from the University of Maastricht. He has also authored over 75 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and books.

Sjeng is also founding partner of Learning By Simulation, a company providing hands-on simulation courses for professionals in the pharmaceutical industry.
